‘Zero-Knowledge’ Privacy

'Zero-Knowledge' privacy means the server never knows the plaintext contents of the data it is storing. Never. Therefore, the data is never at risk of being compromised or abused by either internal threats or external hackers.

What it is & What it Means to You

What, exactly, is Zero Knowledge Privacy?

'Zero-Knowledge' privacy means the server NEVER knows the plaintext contents of the data being stored. Never. Your data is never at risk of being compromised or abused by internal threats or external hackers. Never.

Encrypted Storage

Unfortunately, most online storage systems only encrypt data in transit - meaning the data on the server is visible and potentially at risk. With SpiderOak, your data is fully encrypted end-to-end, and only you are able to unlock it using your password.

Password Protection

Storing encrypted data only solves half the problem. If your password is stored alongside your data, then anyone with access to those servers can view your data. At SpiderOak, we never store your password, which means your data is always private.

No Knowledge

Even with physical access to the storage servers, SpiderOak staff cannot see even the names of your files and folders. All we see are sequentially numbered containers of encrypted data. We are never capable of betraying the trust of our users.
