SpiderOak Hive creates an easy way to sync data between your various devices including mobile. To use SpiderOak Hive, simply drag and drop files and/or folders onto the Hive folder. Once in the folder the data will replicate across your other devices including mobile.
A shortcut to SpiderOak Hive will appear automatically on your desktop. Depending on the operating system, SpiderOak Hive will also appear in the file system browser as follows:
For Windows Explorer –> Documents folder
For Mac Finder –> "/Users/
It's not currently possible to relocate the Hive folder.
SpiderOak Hive is a new feature designed to run on top of the existing SpiderOak application. You can still use the application to select specific files or folders for backup and customize syncs. Simply click the SpiderOak icon that appears in your system tray to launch the application.
SpiderOak Hive is part of the SpiderOak application such that when you download SpiderOak from the website you will also be downloading and have use of SpiderOak Hive.
This is simple! Drag and drop all the items in your current backup set into the SpiderOak Hive folder. As soon as the application reports that the upload has completed as noted on the Status tab, you can start using Hive exclusively. If you want to add any new files or folders to your Hive, just place them in the Hive folder.
All exclusions are global. For example, if you set a preference in the application to exclude .pdf files, this same exclusion will apply to files in your Hive.
If there is no "enable OS integration" in Preferences, chances are likely that the feature didn't get installed. Reinstall/Repair your install, and watch carefully as you go through install - at some point there will be a tiny drive image and "SpiderOak" and on the next line, there should be another tiny drive with "OS integration". If you are seeing a red X instead of that tiny drive, click on it and choose the option "install to hard drive"
If SpiderOak Hive is enabled, you can simply move files directly into the Hive folder. This data will be automatically uploaded and synced across your devices.
You can disable Hive by opening the application and clicking Preferences –> General, then choosing the option to disable Hive. (Please note that disabling it on one device does not disable it on ALL your devices.) You can also simply delete the Hive folder from your system.
The new 2.0 iOS app and 2.0 Android app will include your SpiderOak Hive folder. If you have files in SpiderOak Hive, upon login to the mobile app you will see all the data inside your Hive folder. If you've opted out of using SpiderOak Hive, then you will see the data associated with first computer you setup in your account.
You can still create as many customizable syncs as you want within the SpiderOak application → Sync tab. In fact, the SpiderOak application will remain unchanged and all the previous features will continue to be available from setting up a new sync operation to creating shares.
